The disability and community sector call for the Senate to block the Mobility Allowance Bill
Macular Disease Foundation Australia, along with 27 other leading representative organisations of people with disability, have come together to call on Federal Senators to block the Mobility Allowance Bill that is currently before the Senate.

New treatment option for people with branch retinal vein occlusions
People with macular edema due to branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO) now have another treatment option following the PBS listing of Eylea (aflibercept) for this indication on 1 December 2016. Eylea had previously been listed for central retinal vein occlusions (CRVO).

A sight-saving win for rural and regional Australians
People living in rural and remote areas needing sight-saving treatment for wet age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular oedema and similar conditions will benefit from an important procedural change announced by the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC).

Fovista fails to demonstrate any benefit for wet AMD
In order to improve the outcomes of people being treated with eye injections for wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD), several companies are developing treatments to be used in conjunction with the existing treatments such as Lucentis (ranibizumab) and Eylea (aflibercept). The most advanced of these investigational products is Fovista (pegpleranib).

Do You See What I See?
This summer, the Macular Disease Foundation Australia is supporting local optometrists and Bayer Australia on an awareness initiative called “Do You See What I See?” to help improve the eye health of those at increased risk of developing some of the leading causes of vision loss including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma.
